Translating and Interpreting Studies MC167 Master of Social Science incorporating GD168 Graduate Diploma GC137 Graduate Certificate City This National Accreditation Authority forTranslators and Interpreters (NAATI) approved program provides advanced studies in translating and interpreting theory, professional aspects,project management, language policy and language services, discourse studies, pedagogy,technology and translation and interpretingpractice.
There are two streams available: Accrediting and Non-accrediting.
Duration Please Note: part-time study is not available to International Students. Masters: one and a half years full-time or three years part-time. Graduate Certificate: six months full-time or one year part-time. Graduate Diploma: one year full-time or two years part-time.
On-campus is the only mode available at present. All courses are taught face-to-face in the form of lectures, tutorials, seminars and workshops during normal business hours.
Entrance requirements: Applicants for either stream must have a recognised university qualification and/or appropriate experience and demonstrated capacity to pursue study at a postgraduate level. Students in the NAATI accrediting stream must pass a bilingual entrance test administered by the University. Fees for 2009: M: $20,160 total program cost. Accrediting stream This stream is designed to enable students, in languages where there is sufficient demand, to train for a National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) Translator accreditation in either English into a Language Other than English (LOTE) or a LOTE into English, and/or a NAATI Interpreter accreditation in a LOTE and English. Suitably qualified graduates of the NAATI-approved Advanced Diploma of Translating and Interpreting (NAATI Professional level) or equivalent qualification who wish to undertake studies at the Master level may be eligible for credit for a full semester (Graduate Certificate) in this stream, reducing the length of the Master program from three semesters to two.
Non-accrediting stream This stream has been designed to meet the needs of candidates who wish to engage in advanced professional and theoretical studies and upgrade their qualifications to a higher academic level. Suitably qualified graduates of the RMIT NAATI-approved Advanced Diploma of Translating and Interpreting (NAATI Professional level) or equivalent qualification may also enrol in this stream and may be eligible for credit for a full semester (Graduate Certificate), reducing the length of the Master program from three semesters to two.
